"Hello, my name is Scott Hughes.  I am one of the co-founders of Provectus Aviation Unlimited, LLC.

I have been a pilot and instructor for over 25 years.  I have had the opportunity to be the Chief Pilot and Instructor for a few Part 141 flight schools throughout my career.  One being the biggest in Southern California at the time.  Those experiences provided me with unique insight regarding training, particularly with the training and mentoring of instructors.  I am also fortunate enough to be able to fly turbine aircraft as an independent contractor.

I am originally from the New England area and moved to southern California where I met my wife.  We have 2 kids, a boy and a girl and a house full of pets.  When I have "free" time I enjoy hiking, fishing, riding motorcycles and reading.

I first started flying in 2012 when I began attending school for my Bachelor's degree in  Aviation at SDCC.  I spent four years there working towards my licenses and immediately began instructing after graduating.  I instructed at a Part 141 school here at Gillespie Field for three years while I worked towards getting my CFI-I, Multi Add-on and MEI.  I was primarily doing 141 stage checks when I began working at Provectus.

I am originally from the Fresno area, so I'm definitely enjoying San Diego!

My long-term goal is to do some humanitarian flying and travel.  Currently I am going to school at Miramar College for my A&P license.

I grew up in San Diego and began flying when I was sixteen.  During my freshman year of high school, I was given the opportunity to tour a DC-10 Firefighting aircraft and a KC-130 Hercules at the Marine Corps. Air Station, Miramar and became immediately enamored with aviation.  During my senior year of high school I earned my Private Pilot's License and after graduation I went to a small aviation college in San Diego where I finished the rest of my flight ratings.  Shortly after graduation, I was lucky enough to be hired as a contract First Officer for a small company as well a pilot who flew skydivers to their drop zone in a King Air. Prior to joining the Provectus team, I was instructing at a large part 141 academy in San Diego and have since enjoyed teaching people to fly in the city I love.

My long-term goals include: flying either Fire/Rescue or working for a law enforcement agency.

"My interest in aviation began at the age of 12 while enjoying a sightseeing flight over the Grand Canyon.  SInce that moment I always knew that I would be an aviator.  Fast forward to my early 20's and I was enrolled at Spartan School of Aeronautics, pursuing my dream of becoming a professional pilot.  I graduated in 2004 and have been instructing and flying ever since.  I have over 5000 hours total time with over 3500 as an instructor.

"I have been training instructor candidates since 2008 and I have signed-off dozens of applicants, many of which are now professional pilots working all over the world.  Over the years I have worked as an Assistant Chief Instructor, Check Instructor at a large Part 141 flight school, a Flight Standards Administrator and Safety Officer of a Part 135 charter operation.  Most recently I work as a Part 91 Corporate Pilot.  I am fully qualified to instruct at any level and I continue to share my experience as a corporate pilot with my clients, giving them the tools they need to not only be a successful instructor, but to also be a successful professional pilot."

Besides aviation, I love to spend my free time with my beautiful wife and daughters.  We enjoy traveling and exploring new places.  My favorite hobbies include: fishing, hiking, camping, surfing, sports, and riding dirtbikes.

Aviation has always been a part of my life.  I enjoyed watching my grandfather build a plane in his garage and listening to my uncle's stories who is a captain for a major airline.  After graduating from Point Loma Nazarene (where I played baseball and majored in Finance) I joined the U.S.Navy. The final months of my naval career were served at the San Diego FAA Flight Standards District office.  While at the FAA, I became immersed in aviation and was exposed to nearly every aspect of the field one could imagine.  My time with the FAA led me to pursue a career in aviation.

I've been flying for a few years now and enjoyed being a full-time instructor and Safety Officer at a large Part 141 flight school in San Diego.  I am fortunate to be surrounded by strong members who have ingrained into me a mindset of safety always while having fun!  My long-term goal is to continue instructing in San Diego so that others can pursue their dreams in aviation.

When I am not flying, I stay active by going to the gym, hiking or running at the beach.  Aviation will always be my number one passion, but riding motorcycles is a very close second!
